When I studied acting at the Nissan Nativ studio, I had no idea that a few years later I would be giving acting lessons myself to an endless array of people who are not necessarily looking to become actors themselves; Teachers, artists, doctors, high-tech lawyers and more…
Through my hundreds of students, I realize every time anew what a powerful tool I was privileged to share with my students, and how acting studies for any person from any field in the world can help him/her to free himself, strengthen himself, know how to express himself, connect with himself/herself, discover himself/herself… .
So nice to meet you, I’m Maya,
Born in Jerusalem, an actress from a very young age, a graduate of Nissan Nativ and a mother of three children… right around the year I finished my acting studies, I went to live abroad for eight years (France and New York), and returned to Israel at the end of 2006. In the five years I lived in France, I had The privilege of performing with over 450 plays in the wonderful one-man show “Point of Light” created by Patricia O’Donovan from the Carriage Theater and in the next three years in New York I presented, directed, produced, dubbed, lived the shocking, exciting and certainly not easy life of every actor…
When I returned to Israel, I continued to play in many interesting projects, but I was always looking for what else I could do with my great passion in the face of the already difficult reality in the game industry, certainly for someone who “disappeared” for eight years, and so my mother urged me (and yes, apparently mother always right) to teach acting. She told me it was a “right” to teach.
And I, who only wanted to play and fulfill my vocation as an actress, did not understand what she was talking about. At first the whole idea of teaching seemed very strange to me, but I tried…(we already said that mother is always right, right?) After a short time, my first group was formed.
I was shocked at how quickly I fell in love with teaching and how much this tool worked! And no, it wasn’t necessarily about people who want to be actors. There were of course also those who wanted to (and I’ll tell you that you know quite a few of them, who since they started at the studio have succeeded in a big way!) But not only that… this group was a mosaic of fascinating people, each and every one excellent in his/her field and who found interest in what the gaming world can do expose them; Release, confidence, listening, imagination, body language, flexibility, working on emotion, on expression, on text…
This group gave birth to another group and another and another… and today – already over 13 years later, I look with pride and tremendous satisfaction at the hundreds of students – of all ages, from all backgrounds, different places in the country, north and south; Lawyers, doctors, artists, teachers, hightists, military veterans and retirees, singers, dancers and yes, actors too! They all went through this wonderful and empowering path with me, telling me even after years(!) about the tremendous change that the workshop brought them…and me too…
You are warmly invited to follow what is happening in the studio and if you have connected, you are invited to share, and you are invited to write me questions and concerns
your,
Maya Behar
